Interaction of Hyperthermia with Cytostatics
It can be independent (eg 5-fluorouracil, methotrexate, taxanes), additive (doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, ifosphamide, gemcitabine, etc.) or synergic (cisplatin, carboplatin and bleomycin).

The main mechanism of interaction is increased cytostatic concentration in the tumor (with hyperthermia), which can be attributed to:
(1) Increased perfusion in this area
(2) Increased cell membrane permeability
(3) Stimulation of intracellular metabolism
(4) Reduced reaction time under elevated temperature conditions.
In addition, there is a synergy effect that results from the spatio-temporal coordination between hyperthermia and chemotherapy, since the vast majority of cytostatics work better in well-blooded tissues.

Section under construction. It will include information on the use of hyperthermia in combination with chemotherapy. For the moment we invite you to the section PTHO Library and Scientific Publications.

The effects of hyperthermia as a sensitiser for ionizing radiation can be found in the book „Interstitial and Intracavitary Thermoradiotherapy”. The book is available for rent under the terms of the „Library”.
